Overnight in Boston

Let’s face it, Sig-O and I badly needed a night out with little to no responsibilities. Be it wedding, school or life, we both felt we needed a break. The Doubletree near Tufts in Boston had a great Triple A rate, so we booked it and checked in Sunday afternoon, despite high wind gusts and wind chill temps hovering around zero. It was well worth it and I/we feel re-charged and ready to hit the ground running this February vaca week, tying up lots of loose wedding ends and getting ahead on schoolwork.

Our first stop after checking in and de-frosting at the hotel for a bit was to go for a late lunch. Our first choice was jam packed so we ventured back out, walking up Boyleston and came across The Rattlesnake Bar & Grill. Kind of Tex/Mex fusion, good prices, impressive beer list and turned out, great food! We got an amazing grilled cornbread for an app, enchiladas for Sig-O and chicken tacos for me on entrees and a Caramel Brownie with CHIPOTLE ICE CREAM for dessert. Wish I got a pic! Can you tell I REALLY LIKED the chipotle ice cream? It was so unique, just enough heat/burn in the back of your throat but a nice complement to the decadent brownie! (I got a Hoegaarden to drink and was pleased!)

We headed back to the hotel to hang out for a bit, and ended up going for some drinks and snacks with our friend Anna. Sig-O and her husband are good friends. We went to an Italian place not far from the hotel. I had a great cocktail called “I Heart Ginger”. It had fresh lemon and lime juice, agave nectar, ginger beer and one more liquor I forget. Definitely would order again! We munched on some awesome garlic bread and a veggie pizza before headed back to the hotel and curling up with some movies.  Sig-O and I both got asked to be in their wedding party for their big wedding shindig this coming October. Long story, but Anna’s husband is in the military and they got married in May of last year by a JP. The October one is going to be more traditional, church and reception etc. I am excited and honored to have been asked to be a part of everything!

This morning we headed out to a place called The Thinking Cup, that was a recent addition to my “must try” list. We were not dissapointed. I had the French Drinking Chocolate, a chocolate croissant, and a cafe au lait. Sig-O who is more of a Dunks man, was surprised by how much he liked his coffee! We split a Cherry Ginger Scone and an Apricot Almond Muffin, both very good. All the restaurants we visited, we agreed that we would visit again in a heartbeat!

Warm chocolate chip walnut cookie upon arrival at The Doubletree. I have the feeling I will be doing more business there … 🙂
